Calling up different players has given us a team – Appiah

Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah says calling up different players at certain times is the reason why Ghana still has a team that can perform.

At a pre-match press conference ahead of the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Zambia, Appiah explained that after assuming office, he made sure that he called different players to cover for injuries and suspensions, adding that had he not done so, he would have struggled to build a team.

“When I took over the team, I wanted to bring many players in so that in case of absences and illnesses, there would always be players available to play. Now we have three players in our back four out now, so if other players had not been given the opportunity, it would have been difficult for me to have a team now.”

Appiah expressed confidence in the players in camp, noting that he knows what they can do.

“These players have been with the team; I know what they can do and I have total confidence in them and I believe that they would perform to the highest level.
