Ghana Look To Shine The Black Stars Over Pharaohs
Ghana would be looking to secure their third consecutive World Cup participation when they host Egypt today in the first leg 2014 World Cup qualifier playoffs in Kumasi.
The Black Stars have been on the ascendancy ever since they qualified for their first World Cup in 2006 and would be looking to make it a habit of honouring the World’s prestigious football tournament when they face Egypt.
For that to happen, head coach Kwesi Appiah has dug deep to bring back some of his experienced stalwarts like35-year old goalkeeper Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien who have been there since their first World Cup ticket in 2006.
They however face a tough challenge in the name of Egypt.
American coach Bob Bradley rebuilt the team from the ashes of the golden generation that won three consecutive Afcon titles from 2006-2010.
If stalwarts like Mohammed Abou Treika still have a part to play in the team, the baton has been past to the new generation that is epitomised by Basel striker Mohammed Salah who is one of the hottest prospect in European football.
Egypt would be buoyed going into the clash as history favours them with nine wins in the last 18 encounters for just 4 defeats and 5 draws.
