2013/14 Premier League start to be moved to October?
The start of the 2013/14 Ghana Premier League faces
delay as a result of the Ghana League Clubs Association’s decision to
have this year’s annual GHALCA Top4 tournament in September instead of
the initially planned August date.
Leviticus sports can
reveal that the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA had fixed the start
of the new league season for September 15 (subject to approval by
Congress this month) considering the fact that the GHALCA Top4
tournament would have been played from August 18 to September 8 as
originally stated in the already planned GFA calendar.
However, after a recent meeting with the four
participating teams, GHALCA rearranged the tournament for September 1-22
which would infer that should the date for the start of the league
remain unchanged, the 2013/14 League would start while the Top4 is on
course. This, according to our sources close to organizers of the
league, would defeat the purpose of the Top4 tournament which is
purposely meant for pre-season.
Leviticus sports understands
the new development will be a very key topic at this year’s GFA
Congress which is set to take place on August 28 and 29 at the Ghanaman
Centre of Excellence in Prampram. According to our sources, the new
campaign is likely to be moved from the second week of September start
to October since the GHALCA Top4 has been rescheduled to end on
September 22.
