Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan suffered heartbreak as Al Ahli defeated
his side Al Ain on penalties in the UAE Super Cup match on Friday night.
The striker, who was Al Ain’s top scorer in their league winning feat
last season with 31 goals in 22 games, played the entire duration of
the game.
He came close to winning the tie for Al Ain, rattling the cross bar
in spectacular style on the 29th minute mark despite being tightly
marked by Al Ahli’s Saad Surour.
Gyan scored Al Ain’s first penalty in the shootout, but they went on to lose 2-3.
Now Ghana’s all-time record goal scorer, the 27-year-old is expected
to lead the Black Stars as they face Zambia in the crucial World Cup
qualifier on Friday in Kumasi.
Gyan is Ghana’s top scorer in the qualifiers with four goals in three games.
