Champions League round-up

Ghanaian players who participated in tonight’s Champions League games produce a fine performance to boost their club’s ambitions in qualifying from their various groups.


AC Milan hosted Celtic in their first game of this season’s Champions League. Sulley Muntari capped a nice performance with an 86th minute goal to end Milan’s night as 2-0 winners.
Jordan Ayew made a 73rd minute appearance from the substitute bench in Marseille’s home game against Arsenal. The Ghana international managed to slot home a penalty to in the 3rd minute of additional time. The French Ligue 1 side were already down by two goals from Theo Walcot and Aaron Ramsey and ended their night in a 2-1 defeat. Andre Ayew played the full game for Marseille after missing their draw at weekend.
Kevin-Prince Boateng continued his impressive start for new club Schalke 04 as he scored a goal for the second game running. Boateng scored Schalke’s second goal in their 3-0 home victory against Steaua Bucuresti. He has two goals in three appearances after transferring from AC Milan to Schalke 04.
With Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 21st Real Madrid hat-trick on Champions League match-day 1, the pressure was on Lionel Messi to perform in Barcelona’s game against Ajax. The Argentine didn’t disappoint but also scored a hat-trick to aid Barcelona in their 4-0 victory at the Camp Nou.
Jose Mourinho’s return to the Champions League football with Chelsea will make the headlines for the wrong reasons as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Basel. Oscar’s 45th minute strike for Chelsea was cancelled out by Salah’s equalizer before Streller added a second for Basel.
