South African broadcast giants SuperSport has confirmed earlier
Footy-Ghana.com reports that it has signed on Ghana football onto its
growing list of national leagues across Africa and the world in a three-year deal.
In an agreement with the Ghana Football Association, SuperSport will
for the next three years produce and telecast live on their channels
matches of two local competitions after securing the rights of the Ghana
Premier League and also the Ghana FA Cup.
“Ghana has a tremendous football tradition and continues to produce
great players, so we are delighted with this development,” said Andre
Venter, SuperSport’s head of Africa.
“The game in Ghana is strong and vibrant and we look forward to showcasing it on our channels.”
Footy-Ghana understands that the Ghana FA will receive a total of $2.1
million over a three-year period for the Ghana Premier League, which is
double what previous television rights holders Optimum Media Prime (OMP)
paid to the GFA over the last three years ($1.05 million).
SuperSport has also confirmed its first production will be the live
broadcast of Sunday’s Super Clash between arch rivals Accra Hearts of
Oak and Asante Kotoko from the Accra Sports Stadium via channel 209
(SS9).
