Belgian International Kevin De Bruyne has publicly spoken about his frustration after constantly being overlooked at Chelsea.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder who can also operate as a winger, made his first appearance in over a month during Chelsea’s 2-0 triumph over Arsenal in the Capitol One Cup.
After having started the season brightly and grabbing two crucial assists in the opening fixtures, De Bruyne has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
The Independent indicate that the Belgian playmaker who has been capped 17 times for his country feels that he is at his peak level of fitness and deserves a chance to impress Chelsea boss José Mourinho.
“To be honest, I haven’t thought about it yet. I know something has to change. Sooner or later, I will have to play.
I feel really strong at this time – I think I have never been this fit before.”
Determined
The relationship between Mourinho and De Bruyne came under the microscope in the past several months with papers indicating that they had a fallout. The ex-Racing Genk starlet who won the Belgian Pro-League in 2011 mentioned that he has not considered moving to another club in order to get more playing time under his belt.
“My team-mates have been fantastic. You know, I haven’t worried much about my situation.”
The Drongen-born midfielder will want to reassert himself back into the Chelsea starting eleven if he hopes to represent his country in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Having played a crucial role for the Red Devils during their qualifying campaign in which he netted four times, De Bruyne seems confident that this minor setback will not hamper his long term form and ambitions.
“My career has always gone up but then it’s sometimes normal it makes a horizontal line.”
