Preview: Ghanaian players abroad

Football at club level comes  off this weekend before the international break. Aside from the fact that Ghanaian players abroad would want to stake their places in their club manager’s plans before leaving, an eye will be on getting into coach Kwesi Appiah’s starting XI against Egypt – for those who have already made the squad.

Kevin-Prince Boateng is expected to recover from the knock he picked up against Chelsea to help his side recover from the midweek disappointment as Schalke 04 play at home to Welder Bremen. The Ghanaian who was selected but missed all games in the last two international breaks through a knee injury has been at centre of commitment unrest at the FA camp.

Adre Ayew would want to build up on his goal in the Champions League at midweek as he remains on course to retain his starting spot at the weekend. Marseille entertain Sochaux at home in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday. Jordan Ayew is also poised to play a part in the game.

Kwadwo Asamoah may be relieved to have completed his task against two of the most formidable attackers in the modern game [Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale] in midweek but the Ghanaian’s work is in no way over if he is to retain his defensive duties at the weekend. Juventus are at home to Napoli on Sunday and with the attacking qualities at Rafael Benitez’s disposal, the game is sure to be a cracker giving Juventus’ own attacking prospects.

English based Ghanaian players Michael Essien, Derek Boateng and Emmanuel Frimpong can only hope for a chance as their Chelsea, Fulham and Arsenal sides play West Bromich Albion, Liverpool and Premier League Champions Manchester United respectively.
