The world’s best goalscoring goalkeepers: Higuita, Campos and more

Stoke City star Asmir Begovic became the fastest-ever goalscoring goalkeeper as he bagged a strike from his own area after 12 seconds against Southampton in the Premier League. He is the fifth custodian to net in the Premier League era alongside Peter Schmeichel, Brad FriedelPaul Robinson and Tim Howard. But which goalkeepers around the world have proven just as good with their feet? talkSPORT takes a look…
Rogerio Ceni - 112 goals
The only professional goalkeeper to have scored more than 100 goals on record, this Brazilian was blessed with the feet of an outfield star and the hands of an international-class shotstopper. Able to whip the ball into top corners from free-kicks, he developed a fearsome reputation in his homeland and he was just as good when it came to slotting home penalties too. In a glittering career he made more than 1000 appearances for Sao Paolo winning major title after major title. He also appeared 16 times for Brazil.
Jose Luis Chilavert - 62 goals
The second most prolific goalkeeper ever is Jose Luis Chilavert. In the mid-90s he was rated as one of the best shotstoppers in the world and his abilities at set-pieces meant he was worth his weight in gold for Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield and national side Paraguay. Chilavert scored eight goals for his country and 54 for his various club sides. He also netted a hat-trick against Velez’s rivals Ferro Carril Oeste in 1999.
Dimitar Ivankov - 42 goals
Goalkeepers need nerves of steel and this Bulgarian had the cojones to step up and take penalties for Levski Sofia, Kayserispor and Bursaspor.
Rene Higuita - 41 goals
Everyone one remembers THAT scorpion kick against England at Wembley, but the eccentric who became known as ‘El Loco’ was one of the best sweeper-keepers the world has seen. Able to sense danger, the Colombian wasn’t afraid to charge from his line and dribble away from his own goal before passing to a team-mate, although it did backfire infamously against Cameroon at the 1990 World Cup. Throughout his career he weighed in with his fair share of goals too, 41 in total, including seven for his country, mainly from set-pieces. He narrowly pips Peruvian 'keeper Johnny Vegas Fernandez into fourth spot.
Jorge Campos - 34 goals
Fondly remembered for his ghastly self-designed jerseys, the Mexican custodian was famed for his flamboyance, but also ranks as the sixth-highest scoring goalkeeper in history. Although he may have been short in stature, the former Pumas and LA Galaxy star made up for his lack of height with his big character and ended up scoring 34 goals during his career. Campos would sometimes start in goal and then move up-front later on during games thanks to his talents with the ball at his feet.
Hans-Jorg Butt - 32 goals
Every side has a player that always seems to score against them. For Juventus it happened to be German goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt. During his playing career he scored three penalties against the Old Lady for three different sides (Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich) in the Champions League.
