Twelve referees suspended for using fake BECE certs

Twelve local referees have been suspended for six months by the Ghana Football Association for providing fake Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) certificates.

General Secretary of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) Alex Kotey, confirmed to Citi Sports that the following nine: Uriah Glah, Daniel Dorgbetor, Amofa Sarkodie, Augustine Akugre, Alex Akugre, Osman Oadragou, Samuel Kyeremeh Yeboah, Prince Tawiah and Fredrick Bediako are being charged with impersonation and providing fake documents.

“Yes, it is true. They have been given six month bans and talks are still ongoing about whether to make them criminal cases or for them to be dealt with at the FA level.”

The said individuals were asked by officials of the GFA to produce their BECE certificates to, ostensibly, confirm their ages and education backgrounds upon completion of FIFA fitness test held in Prampram a few weeks ago.

All nine been thus taken off the list of officials across all divisions for the league season.
