LIVERPOOL AND TOTTENHAM TARGET CRISTIAN BENTEKE
According to reports from
Goal, it has been suggested
that Liverpool and
Tottenham have revealed
their interest in Aston Villa
striker Christian Benteke.
Goal reports that the Premier
League biggies are willing to
offer the Belgium
international a bumper rise
on his weekly wage of
andpound;20,000 as well as
a major playing role.
Liverpool are looking to sign
the striker as a replacement
for Luis Suarez who has
been strongly linked with an
exit from Anfield, with Real
Madrid leading the race for
him.
The Spurs, on the other
hand, are keen on bolstering
up their front line ahead of
the next season. They have
currently dropped interest in
their top target Leandro
Damiao and are looking for
suitable alternatives.
Borussia Dortmund have
also been reportedly
monitoring the
developments in Benteke
transfer case. Benteke, who
made a remarkable debut in
England scoring 19 goals,
has three years remaining
on his contract with the club.
Paul Lambert, Villa manager,
revealed recently that the 22-
year-old had been offered an
improved contract but he
accepted that the
strikerandrsquo;s future
remains doubtful.
Benteke admitted last month
that he could demand a
transfer this summer.
"If Aston Villa say I must stay,
I won't necessarily accept
that. I do not in any way
want to feel I didn't get the
most out of my career."
About Arsenal, who have
also been linked with a move
for him, he says:
"If the chance comes up for
me to join a club like Arsenal,
I'm convinced we can reach
a compromise where
everyone comes out a
winner."
