Ex Ghanaian Gaisah wins silver at World Athletics championships

Ignatius Giasah has won a silver medal in his first competition since quitting Ghana to compete for the Netherlands.

The 30-year-old’s 8.29 meter leap in the men’s long jump finals at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Russia earned the Ghanaian-born the accolade.

Gaisah won the silver medal after placing second in the finals behind Russian Aleksandr Menkov who won gold with a leap of 8.56 on Friday.

His jump also apparently emerged as the new national record of the Netherlands.

The win by Gaisah is a major blow to Ghana – a country he decided not to continue competing for over claims his basic needs are not met.
