Russia-based striker Abdul Majeed Waris looks set to make a return to
the Black Stars for next month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against
Zambia.
The 21-year old has been out of the Stars team since March after
sustaining an injury weeks after making a move from Russian side Spartak
Moscow to Swedish outfit, BK Hacken.
Stars coach Kwasi Appiah has been following the progress of the
player upon his recovery three weeks ago and set to hand him a place in
the squad.
Warris will be expected to provide option for attack, where captain
Asamoah Gyan remains the ‘godfather’ for the crucial encounter against
the Chipolopolo.
He was named amongst the substitutes for last Sunday’s Russian Premier League encounter with Kuban Krasnodar barren.
The striker has yet to feature for his club in the five-week old
Russian League, but with the departure of Nigerian forward Emmanuel
Emenike for Turkish side Fenerbahce; he may soon get his chance.
The Right to Dream Academy product capped his home debut with a goal
as Ghana beat Sudan 3-0 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Baba
Yara Stadium earlier in the year.
Warris won the Golden Boot with BK Hacken last season after scoring 25 goals in all competitions.
