The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) at a meeting on Tuesday
have decided to call off the 2013 edition of the GHALCA Top 4
tournament.
According to Footy-Ghana sources, the annual tournament has been
cancelled for the second year running due to short notice to the teams
and difficulties in securing sponsorships for the competition.
Originally, the tournament was scheduled to take place from September
1-22 2013, but following the insistence of the Ghana Football
Association that the Premier League kicks off on September 15, the
tournament had since been rescheduled for September 1-11 2013.
It will be recalled that the 2012 edition which had been named
afterthe late Ghana FA vice President Jordan Anagblah was also cancelled
with organizers citing unavailability of venues and closeness of the
start of the past Ghana Premier League season as reasons for the
decision.
This year’s GHALCA Top4 competition would have been contested by
league champions Asante Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama SC and Ebusua
Dwarfs.
The Top 4 Competition is an off-season tourney that traditionally
prepares clubs involved in the various African Club competitions and the
League proper for the season ahead but has been unable to come on in
the past two seasons.
