Jack Wilshere has urged his Twitter followers to follow 16-year-old midfielder Dan Crowley, tipping the Arsenal starlet for a prosperous future.
Wilshere’s words of praise come on the back of an impressive start to Crowley’s Emirates career. He was labelled the "new Jack Wilshere" upon his summer arrival from Aston Villa, per Simon Knights of talkSport, and has continued to develop his skills in North London.
As noted on the club’s official website, Crowley performed excellently during his Arsenal Under-21 debut, a 4-3 preseason win over Sutton United:
The performance of Dan Crowley, making his debut after signing from Aston Villa, was a particular highlight.
The 15-year-old was composed in possession, clever on the ball and always seemed to find a yard of space.
Arsenal have a rich history of developing young talents through their youth academy. As reported by Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, the French boss suggested young players make up the heart of the Gunners team at the club’s recent AGM meeting:
Our huge ambition is to win the league, but our policy is based on three different levels. The first is to defend of philosophy of play - that can only be done by developing our own players. That has to be the core of our squad. Like WilshereSzczesnyGnarby, Gibbs etc.
While Wenger also placed an emphasis on scouting lesser-known players and buying the occasional superstar, it is the development of individuals such as Crowley who fulfil an Arsenal philosophy that the manager has worked so hard to instil.
The North London club's excellent ball-playing style has seen them waltz through many opponents this season, typified byWilshere's stunning goal in the recent 4-1 win over Norwich.
Crowley, an England Under-17 international, looks to boast similar qualities to many midfielders who have worn the red and white shirt. One day, he may even line up alongside Wilshere in the heart of Wenger's midfield.
Should he continue to perform well and progress his game, there's no reason why Crowley can't push for a first-team spot in the next few years. The manager's decision to bring in superstar signings such as Mesut Ozil should only help the youngster hone his skills.
