Ghanaian players abroad: Recap of Saturday’s action.

Kevin-Prince Boateng was back with a bang in the German Bundesliga after a slight injury kept him out of Schalke 04’s game at midweek. The Ghana international needed just three minutes to announce his presence in the away game against Hoffenheim giving Schalke 04 the lead.

The away side scored a second in the 14th minute before Hoffenheim pulled one back. The two goal lead was restored before the break ending the first half 3-1 in Schalke’s favour.

The home side scored two goals in the second half to deny Boateng’s side the three points. Scalke 04 lie 13th on the league log.

Olympique Marseille won 2-0 away to Lorient in the French Ligue 1. Adre Ayew capped a fine performance with a goal in the dying minutes of the game. Ayew scored the second goal of the game in the first minute of additional time after Mathieu Valbuena had given Marseille a 58th minute lead.

Jordan Ayew started the game for Marseille but was substituted a minute after Valbuena’s goal. His side are placed 3rd in the French Ligue 1 level on points with 2nd placed Monaco who have a game in hand.

Emmanuel Assifuah-Inkoom came off the substitute bench to score on his debut for FC Sion against FC Basel in Swiss Super League. Basel who beat Chelsea in their opening Champions League fixture were playing at home and took a 2-1 lead a few minutes after Assifuah had been introduced into the game.

The Ghanaian scored an 87th minute goal to grab a point for Sion as he made his first appearance in the Swiss league count in the 2-2 draw.

In the English Premier League, Michael Essien was not involved in Chelsea’s fierce 1-1 away draw with Tottenham Hotspur. The Ghanaian was an unused substitute in the game that saw Fernando Torres sent off.

Derek Boateng’s absence in the Fulham match-day squad continued as his side were beaten at home by a late goal from Cardiff City. Martin Jol ignored the Ghanaian from his entire match-day squad for the third game running.

Isaac Cofie was also an unused substitute in the Italian Serie A when Genoa were defeated 2-0 at home by Napoli.

Sulley Muntari was back in AC Milan’s starting 11 after coming off the bench in midweek to help his side secure a 3-3 draw against Bologna. The Ghana international begun today’s home game against Sampdoria before being substituted in the 46th minute. AC Milan scored the only goal of the game just after the half time break.
