Asantehene assures Black Stars of absolute support ahead of Egypt clash
The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II has assured the Black Stars of his kingdom’s absolute support ahead of the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt.
The Ghana team led by Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and top Ghana FA officials arrived at the Manhyia Palace at around 2pm (local time) to seek the blessings of the Ashanti King ahead of Tuesday’s crucial game against Egypt.
The Players took turns to exchange greetings with the Asantehene amidst cheers from the gathering.
The revered king in assuring the team of his absolute support adviced the players to adhere strictly to the instructions of coach Akwasi Appiah but not after the Sports Minister, GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi and captain Asamoah Gyan had taken turns to introduce the team's mission in the Ashanti Regional capital.
“You already know what the support is always like when you play in Kumasi but I once again want to assure you of the absolute support of the Ashanti and Ghanaian people,” the Otumfour said.
“You however have to listen to the instructions of the coach while playing your hearts out to deliver victory.
“After beating Egypt, I will be prepared to host you here again for us to enjoy your achievement.”
Ghana is chasing a third successive appearance at the World Cup whereas Egypt hope to clinch their first qualification since 1990.
