The Premier League had added the most sorted after player in the
transfer window. The Belgium star who announce his transfer on twitter
by posting a simple ‘will be playing for Champions League Champions’
took the 2012/2013 Premier League by storm tormenting defenders with his
dazzling feet.
Chelsea buoyed by their first Champions League trophy were unstoppable under the confidence oozing Roberto Di Mateo.
The game plans were drawn, lines inked, plots written, men man-marked
against the then Premier League Champions Manchester City. Their no
nonsense stupendous performance in their title winning season, totally
outplaying all of their adversaries made clubs wary of their ability. If
Manchester United could take a 6-1 demolition at Old Trafford, how dare
you attempt to beat City?
It was like the old Cinderella story with our beloved Arsenal –
gasping for air at the bottom end of the table in hope of qualifying for
the Champions League through a swing of the magic wand of their French
magician, Arsene Wenger. For the record, he did put on a great show with
his Arsenal puppets celebrating after their last game like the
invincible squad.
A lackluster Manchester United had taken the beating from Everton
under David Moyes in their first attempt to state their intention of
turning Manchester red. Marouane Fellaini was the potent poison in
Everton’s mastermind.
The greatest manager football has ever seen, arguably, in his
unknowingly last season had to go back to his tactics board. The only
solution was to unleash the precious gem Arsenal’s French magician had
given him – Robin van Persie. It didn’t take long before the Dutchman
announced his arrival at Old Trafford with a stunning volley.
RVP later gave Manchester City a taste of what they missed out on
with a last minute breathtaking free-kick to end the Etihad outfit’s run
of not losing a Premier League game at home for two years.
Tottenham pushed under Villas-Boas, Liverpool changed their play and
couldn’t qualify for Europe, QPR nominated themselves as relegation
‘Champions’ after spending big, Di Caneo graced the end of the season
and Wigan did it again – ending the season on a high bar their
relegation.
In the end Manchester United had won a record 20th League
title. It was intense, it was emotional, simply fun. That’s what the
Premier League offers and what better way to preview the upcoming season
that to review the previous one.
Whether it is Robin van Persie tearing defenders into shreds,
Liverpool wining the Premier League, Wayne Rooney wining the golden boot
in a blue shirt or Jose Mourinho taking the boot for the second time at
Chelsea from their mean owner Roman Abramovich, be sure to experience
an exciting season.
Premier League 21.0 begins Saturday, August 17, 2013 and the thrill
to live through is like watching a yearlong version your favourite
blockbuster movie in a dark cinema hall. Enjoy.
